Leucadendron 'Ebony' PP23,258

Leucadendron 'Ebony' PP23,258 or Ebony Coneflower

This recently released Leucadendron was a sport found growing from Leucadendron 'Safari Sunset' on a cut flower farm in New Zealand. The parent is one of the most robust and easily grown Leucadendrons in landscapes and 'Ebony' is proving to be just as good. Although a little slow to establish, my first 'Ebony' is now over 6' tall and 5' wide and showing no signs of slowing down. Plants grown in warmer gardens may achieve that height. 'Ebony' keeps its dark foliage year round and really shines during winter when the bracts color up around the flowering cone.

Leucadendron 'Ebony' is an adaptable plant, but does best in Full Sun with good drainage and air flow. Tip prune young plants to encourage a fuller form and don't be afraid to give this plant a good air cut if it starts to get a little leggy. Its parent plant can be cut to a 6" stub and bounce back vigorously with new growth. While I'm sure 'Ebony' could do the same, I'm not going to be the first to try it. Hardy to at least 24f.

This is a patented plant. Young plants are purchased from a Licensed Propagator.
