Protea cynaroides 'Mini King'
This is a smaller version of the King Protea at about half the height. The flowers are just as impressive if not a tad bit smaller. Bloom time can be year round for coastal gardeners but tends to match up with Spring and Fall for gardens further inland. This is a fire-adapted plant, meaning it is rejuvenated but cutting spent stems (that have just flowered) back to the base of the plant. New growth will generally flower after two seasons. This is a great plant for large planters where the flowers can really be shown off.
Maintained size is around 3' high and wide. Provide full sun, good drainage and air movement for best flowers. Hardy to 26f-28f with some tip damage.
