Prior to its renovation, this garden was a jumble of lawn, river rock and plants with different water requirements. Weeds had taken over the lawn and weed cloth had reduced the soil to a sorry state.

The homeowners loved the look of the Desert Southwest and wanted their own patch to enjoy and to compliment their creativity. Boulders were used to define the beds and create small detailed areas for feature plants. Fast draining soil was built up around the boulders to create interesting berms that also ensure adequate drainage.

The entire garden is irrigated with drip, reducing run off, evaporation and high water bills. A rebate from EBMUD was used towards the installation of this garden.
